The Zik are designed around a powerful processor that spatializes sound and recreates the acoustics of a concert hall. Three months ago, I asked Lou Reed for his opinion. He told me that the headphones were well tuned for classical music but not for rock. And he told me he could help.
So on September 30th, 2013, I travelled to his studio in New York; it would be the last time I would see him. Working alongside his experienced sound engineer as well as Parrot Zik’s acoustic designers, Lou Reed used his personal mastering studio to program the Zik as if he were adjusting the balance for one of his own performances. Active Noise Control
To insulate you from external noise, Parrot has developed an ultra-high performance active noise cancellation system which eliminates up to 98% of ambient noise.
While traditional ANC audio headsets only use two microphones to analyse ambient noises, the Zik has four microphones (1, 2, 3, 4) located inside and outside each earpiece offering total listening comfort.
How does it work ?
Two microphones located inside the headset capture the surrounding noise. Two additional microphones, one in each earpiece, analyse the residual noise (low frequencies) that could disrupt listening.
The outside noise is then cancelled out by opposing sound waves (anti-noise) in order to create a quieter environment.
Parrot Concert Hall Effect
To ensure music is heard in all its harmony and depth, Parrot took particular care with Zik’s audio playback. The headset is equipped with powerful DSP (Digital Sound Processor) algorithms which reconstructs the sound, giving you the impression that the music is coming from in front of you; this is the “Parrot Concert Hall” effect.
