Parrot ASTEROID - F.A.Q
Note: Before starting, check you have the latest update to your Parrot ASTEROID. To find out, select Settings > About > Version. The version number must be that given in the Latest available software versions section. If not, you need to update your Parrot ASTEROID.
 The system does not shut down or the “Goodbye” message is not displayed when I switch my vehicle off.
If the "Goodbye" message does not appear when you switch you car's ignition off, you must reverse the positions of the red and yellow wires. This is because the red wire of the power supply cable must be connected to the after-contact 12V supply, the yellow wire to the permanent 12V supply and the black wire to earth. This can be done simply by reversing the two terminal lugs located on the Parrot wiring.
 Is it possible to use the steering wheel controls in my vehicle to control my hands-free system?
The interface which manages steering wheel controls is not currently available. An optional extra will be offered during the year.
 Can the Parrot ASTEROID be installed in all vehicles?
The Parrot ASTEROID is compatible with many vehicles on the market, its 1-DIN format is in line with the standard for traditional car radios.
Using special spacers, it can be installed in vehicles using 2-DIN format or in other models with car radios integrated into the dashboards (e.g. BMW, Audi, Renault, etc.). These spacers are available from our approved installers.
 I have an amplifier in my vehicle. Is this a problem?
No.No The Parrot ASTEROID has 6 RCA outputs including 2 outputs to a subwoofer. These RCA outputs can be connected to the inputs of the external amplifier or to a preamp.
Note: If the volume of the subwoofer output seems too high, even when the effect adjustment on the Parrot ASTEROID is at the minimum, check if your amplifier or amplified subwoofer has a volume control.
 Why does the sound only come through the vehicle's front speakers?
For telephone communication, it is normal for sound only to come through the vehicle's front speakers, this is the normal operating mode of the car radio for telephony-related functions
Should this occur with audio streaming or with USB/iPhone/iPod/SD reading, please check that your car radio is connected to all four of the vehicle’s speakers.
 Is the Parrot ASTEROID compatible with a 24V battery?
No, the Parrot ASTEROID only accepts supply voltages of between 10V and 16V. If connected to a 24V supply, the device risks being damaged. You can however use a step-down transformer to convert your supply voltage from 24V to 12V.
 Is it possible to use a USB extension cable when installing my Parrot ASTEROID?
Although it is possible to connect a USB extension, its use will adversely affect the USB signal. Avoid the use of USB extension cables other than those supplied by PARROT which have optimal lengths.
 I have not been able to connect by vehicle's aerial to that of the Parrot ASTEROID
If connection is not possible, you will need a special adaptor such as the one below, also available from our approved installers.
These adaptors are available from our approved installers.
If you have an active aerial (uses a power supply), you can power it using the ISO cable supplied with your Parrot ASTEROID.
You will then need a special adaptor such as the one below.
 Where do I put the USB connectors?
USB peripherals (GPS, 3G key, USB key, MP3 player, etc.) can be connected to any available black USB port. The white USB port is reserved for Apple peripherals (iPod®, iPhone®, iPad®). Parrot recommends the following configuration:
- The white USB port for Apple products;
- A USB port for GPS;
- A USB port for a 3G key;
- A USB port for a USB peripheral containing music.
To ensure optimal reception, do not connect your 3G key directly to the Parrot ASTEROID: use the USB cable provided to install the accessory on the dashboard (or any other clear area).
 Is it possible to use the steering wheel controls in my vehicle to control my hands-free system?
The interface which manages steering wheel controls is not currently available. An optional extra will be offered during the year.

 I have just connected my 3G key, but have got the APN wrong. What can I do?
The APN (Access Point Name) is the portal on which the Parrot ASTEROID connects to the Internet.
It depends on your operator and your contract. If you have made a mistake with the APN:
- Select Settings > Network > 3G Key > Configuration.
- Select the new APN.
- Check the "Select" box.
- Wait for reconnection.
 Which 3G keys are compatible with the Parrot ASTEROID?
Click here to view the list of 3G keys which are compatible with the Parrot ASTEROID. Note: Internet connection via a 3G key requires a subscription offer with a telephone operator. Using this service can result in significant roaming charges. Bear in mind also that an unlimited flat rate subscription means that the connection is unlimited in time but not in volume of data. Beyond a certain threshold, the bitrate may be reduced and the billing changes to non-flat rate. Check the conditions of your subscription and consumption tracking with your operator. Parrot disclaims any liability for associated costs.
 Is the Parrot ASTEROID compatible with the EDGE network?
The connectivity of the Parrot ASTEROID to the 3G network is managed by your telephone/3G key. The Parrot ASTEROID does not therefore make a distinction between the 3G network and the EDGE network. However, as the data exchange rates are more limited, you risk not being able to make full use of the apps on the Parrot ASTEROID.
 Can I use my telephone's 3G connection to log on?
Yes, if you have a telephone which supports the Bluetooth DUN (Dial-Up networking) or PAN (Personal Area Network) profiles, connecting your telephone to the Parrot ASTEROID via Bluetooth lets you share the 3G connection of the telephone
Check the conditions of your subscription and consumption tracking with your operator. Parrot disclaims any liability for associated costs.
Click here to view the list of telephones which are compatible with the Parrot ASTEROID.
 Do I continue to consume data when I change application without using the Exit menu?
Exiting a Parrot ASTEROID application without closing it will not necessarily end your 3D data consumption:
- The Coyote application can run in background mode. Consult the Coyote application support page for more details.
- When you exit a music application, the buffer memory continues to load the current track.
Note: Buffer memory size depends on the capacity of the SD card that is inserted into the Parrot ASTEROID. Data download stops when the buffer memory is full.
To ensure that you do not continue to use 3G data after filling the buffer memory, you must close the application. To do this, press the key and select Exit.
 With the Maps application, when I zoom in to the maximum extent in "Satellite" mode, I see crosses on the screen. Why?
Maps displays crosses in areas where Google does not have the satellite map at the requested resolution.
 How do I share a 3G connection from a phone without a DUN or PAN Bluetooth profile?
It is currently not possible to share a 3G connection without a DUN or PAN Bluetooth profile. We are, however, working on implementing an update in order to enable sharing of 3G connections via USB.
