How to install my hand free system ?
The basic installation is done by inserting the car kit between the car stereo and the car.
The car kit has 2 connectors: one for audio, the other one for power supply. As soon as these connectors are plugged, check the installation as follow: |
- Navigate through the menu to get the vocal prompt (if available on you hands free car kit).
- Turn the ignition on then off. The “goodbye” message should be displayed on the screen (if available on your hands free car kit).

Be careful: Depending on the model of your vehicle, you may need to purchase an ISO adapter cable to simplify the wiring procedure. Click here for more information. |
What is an ISO connector ?
| |
An ISO connector is a standard connector that is used on a majority of vehicles models. It is a rectangular connector with 8 pins.
There are two types of ISO connectors on a Parrot car kit : one for audio, the other for power supply. |
Where can I find an ISO cable ?
| |
The ISO cables are already included with the Parrot car kits. |
Why do I need an adaptor cable for my car ?
| |
Some cars do not have ISO connectors; due to the car manufacturers own standards. In this case you need to have an adaptor between the ISO connector of the car kit and the one of the vehicle.

What do 12v ignition and permanent 12v mean ?
| |
After starting your vehicle, a 12 volt power signal is delivered to supply power to electronic accessories in the vehicle (heater controls, cigarette lighter, car radio, etc.). Upon detection of this 12v ignition power supply, the hands free system will start working. In this way, the hands-free system will switch on at the same time as your vehicles accessories.
Permanent 12v is a 12 volt power supply that constantly supplies power to the vehicle's own equipment. In this way, this power guarantees the correct operation of some specific electrical circuits (clock, alarm, hazards, central door locking etc). By using the ISO power cable supplied, the Parrot hands free system is also linked to this constant power supply, making it possible to save the kit's configuration settings.
It is vital that you Parrot handsfree car kit is wired correctly in this regard. The RED cable needs to be connected to a constant 12 volt supply and the ORANGE wire needs to be connected to the switched 12 volt supply (Ignition ON/OFF). On all Parrot systems with a display ensure you see ‘Goodbye’ before the unit switches off. If this is not displayed the RED and ORANGE wires to the kit need to swapped at the fuse holders. |
How to verify the 12v ignition presence ?
| |
Verify the three following points:
- the car kits turns on when you turn on the ignition.
- the “goodbye” message is displayed when you turn off the ignition
- all your settings are memorized
How do I get a 12v ignition if I do not have one on the car stereo ?
| |
Many new vehicles comes with CAN BUS (Data) communication at the rear of the radio and as a result the Parrot hands free kits ignition wire (Orange) CANNOT be connected to the rear of the radio. This must be taken from a suitable 12 volt ignition supply elsewhere on the vehicle such as the fusebox or cigar lighter. We recommend you seek professional assistance in this regard. |
I have an amplifier in my car. Is it a problem ?
| |
The sound of the car kit is already amplified. Consequently if your vehicle is already equipped with an amplifier, the sound will be amplified twice. This can produce saturation problems such as a loud sound, popping in the speakers, background noise or no sound at all.
If you think you have an amplified audio system we would recommend you seek professional assistance to integrate the Parrot handsfree system into your vehicle.
In some instances specific adaptor cables which bypass the amplified system can be obtained. Click here for more information.

What is a "line in" connection ?
| |
The "line in" connection consists of using the non-amplified output from the Parrot hands-free system (Line + / Line - wire) in order to use the amplification resources already available in the vehicle. These output signals can only be used if the amplifier or car radio (with integrated amplifier) has auxiliary/telephone direct input plugs available. |
How do you use a line in connection ?
| |
The "line out" output plugs on the hands free system must be used. Hands-free systems have the following typical audio output cables: a red/black pair and a brown/white pair. The exceptions to this rule are the Parrot CK3100, which only has one "line out" output pair (a brown/green pair for mono sound) and the Parrot CK3000 Evolution, which has none at all.
These output ports must be connected to the auxiliary/telephone direct input ports of the car radio (often marked with descriptions like Aux +/- ; Tel +/- ; Line +/-).
The "line out" output cable pairs are not amplified. Please select the AUX option on your car radio to receive the hands-free system sound channel on our music kits. Line inputs may also be available on any separate amplifier in your vehicle. In case of doubt, please consult an approved system installer.
Attention must be made to the audio settings of your amplification system, and particularly to the mute on streaming setting of the MKi hands free system.
My hands free system does not stop when I shut down my car, is it normal ?
| |
When shutting down the car, the hands free system must display a « goodbye » message before shutting down. If the car kit does not shut down, it means that you have no 12v ignition. |
Why does the sound of the hands-free system only come through the vehicle's front speakers ?
| |
During hands free communications, the basic operating mode is to deliver those communications using only the vehicle's front speakers.
During audio playback (USB key, iPod), the sound can be delivered to all loudspeakers in your vehicle (2 front speakers and 2 rear speakers). This depends on the audio system fitted in your vehicle. For example, the car radio must be directly connected to 4 loudspeakers in the first place.
For some configurations, it may be preferable to connect using a "line in" connection if your vehicle has its own amplification system.
For more information, please contact an installer from our approved network team who can diagnose the restrictions imposed by your vehicle's audio system. |
What is the “Mute on Streaming” option on the MKi range ?
| |
The Mute on Streaming option deactivates the dedicated mute wire on the MKi unit when streaming music. This is mainly used when integrating the MKi range into amplifier audio systems which allow an auxiliary input.
Your handsfree communication will work in the normal way muting the audio system so the caller can be heard through the front speakers, while the rear loudspeakers are muted.
In order to enable this option, the dedicated mute wire of your hands-free system must be connected to your radio, and your Parrot systems line outputs connected to your vehicle's amplifier. |
What is the mute wire used for ?
| |
This wire is used to send a specific signal to your vehicle's audio system. This signal makes it possible to show a message ("Mute", "Aux", "External", etc.) on the screen of your car radio to indicate that you are using a hands-free or music playing accessory. The car radio must be fitted with a Mute input socket.
- If you installed the hands-free system with a "Line in" system, this will enable your car radio to be Muted/Interrupted in telephone or music modes.
- If you have installed an external loudspeaker, it enables your car radio to be Muted/Interrupted in telephone or music modes.
