Topic: Evolution Install in Mercedes ML320 with Bose Audio

I have temporarily installed the Evolution using the ISO connectors.  I would appreciate any help with the following issues:

1. Whenever the unit activates or deactivates there is a short, loud high pitched pop/beep from the speakers. It sounds like there is an amplifier and its inputs are temporarily disconnected.
2. The volume is too high.  I have turned it down to minimum with the VOLUME menu, but it is still too loud.  Perhaps I need to "splice in" with a resistor as indicated in the installation guide.  IS any help available on doing that?  Where, resistor value, etc.
3. Since I connected up between the radio and the speakers, I expected the unit to work when the radio was off, using its internal amplifier.  It did not.  When I turn on the ignition it pairs with my phone, but there is no audio from the speakers unless the radio is on.
4. The LEDs on the control are so dim that they will be invisible except in a darkened car at night.  Is this normal?
5. I have not connected the mute line to mute 1, 2, or 3.  There is no help for which line to use in my radio manual.  Any ideas?

Thanks for any help.

Re: Evolution Install in Mercedes ML320 with Bose Audio

Hi,

I have the same issue with my 3200 LS.  This issue, I believe, is that the output through the DIN connectors from the Parrot unit is amplified, while the output from your head unit is not.  So there is a mis-match.   Hence the popping and loudness.  Probably not good for your amp.  :-0

The good news for you is that with your unit (as opposed to the 3200), you can splice in a resistor/attenuator to reduce the load that the Parrot unit outputs.  There are a number of folks out there who can help you do this.  I have been talking to the guys at www.quickconnectproducts.com.  There is nothing about this on their web site,  but send a note to their support team and they can help out.

Re: Evolution Install in Mercedes ML320 with Bose Audio

Thanks for y our suggestions.  After I posted here I found the auto install forum and posted there.  Other than your reply, no help from here, but a lot of help from Quick Connect Products.  It turns out that I don't need one of their harnesses but will probably get an attenuator from them.  Howard sent me three e-mails with helpful information in a few minutes after I posted the questions to their help line.  Here's what I've learned:

1, 2.  Pop/beep probably due to overdriving the Mercedes Bose Amp.  I will put an attenuator in-line to reduce the level.  Should also reduce the noise I hear in the background.

3. Since the car has the Bose sound system the "speaker" connector actually goes to the amp.  When the radio is off, the amp is off, and no sound.  I have modified the Parrot power cable to turn on the amp with the mute line.  Works like a champ.  Calls come through whether the radio is on or not.

4.  No help so far.  The LEDs are so dim as to be not visible.  They are more visible at extreme angles.  I believe there is some kind of an alignment problem between the lens on the button and the LED on the circuit board.  Doesn't appear it can be fixed.

5. If the mute line works on this radio, it should go to Mute 2.  But I tried that and it didn't seem to make any difference.

Re: Evolution Install in Mercedes ML320 with Bose Audio

I am having problems with popping as well.  I have a VW Passat with a double-din Monsoon system.  I am using the 3100 with the Parrot harness as well.  Any help would be much appreciated.

Thanks.

Re: Evolution Install in Mercedes ML320 with Bose Audio

I hope this isn't too late to help anyone as I just joined.

I had the same issue in my 2000 SLK230.  The fix (as opposed to spending another $95 for an attenuated cable) was to install a couple of 1k, 1/4 w resisters in series with the left and right channel inputs coming off the DIN cable into the Parrot device itself.

Re: Evolution Install in Mercedes ML320 with Bose Audio

I've received several requests for pics of the mod I did to my Parrot to remedy the loud audio.  Here is a link to that picture, but feel free to email me if you have any other questions, I'll try to help best I can.
